Sheriff Evangelidis celebrates 98.7% compliance score, praising staff’s dedication to safety and professionalism

WORCESTER—The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office has earned re-accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA) with an impressive compliance score of 98.7%, Sheriff Lew Evangelidis announced. The accreditation, which is renewed every three years, reflects the office’s commitment to maintaining high standards across areas such as inmate safety, healthcare, mental health, education, staff training, and facility management.

During an April audit, a team of ACA evaluators assessed the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction on more than 420 standards. The auditors commended the facility, noting that few institutions operate at the level of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Evangelidis highlighted this praise as a testament to the hard work of his staff, particularly given the challenges the office faced when he first took office in 2011, inheriting one of the oldest facilities in the state.

“Our focus on meeting ACA standards has set our facility up for long-term success,” Evangelidis said, adding that the accreditation is a vital part of ensuring the safety and professionalism of the facility and its staff, who play a crucial role in the well-being of Worcester County residents.

Although the Commonwealth of Massachusetts does not mandate ACA audits, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office has held accreditation since 2008, underscoring its commitment to excellence in corrections.
