Webster – Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis spent today visiting local charities throughout Worcester County including the New Hope Center of Webster to personally hand deliver over 1,300 winter jackets for the conclusion of the tremendously successful 2011 Sheriff’s Winter Coat Drive. The Sheriff’s Winter Coat Drive is an annual event that has in previous years provided new or lightly used winter coats to families in need in Northern Worcester County and was expanded this year by Sheriff Evangelidis to also include communities in Southern Worcester County.
“In the past the Sheriff’s Annual Coat Drive provided winter jackets to families in need in Northern Worcester County, in an effort to help more families in our community who may be less fortunate the 2011 Sheriff’s Winter Coat Drive was expanded to include Southern Worcester County as well.” Evangelidis continued “With over 1,300 winter jackets collected this year we are able to help more families and children in need than in year’s past. As the cold weather months approach and especially during this difficult economic time, it is
extremely important to help provide those in our community who may be less fortunate with an adequate winter coat.”

The Sheriff’s Annual Winter Coat Drive is a collaborative effort between the Sheriff, the Webster Office of Community Corrections, Dudley District Court and local businesses Green Valley Montessori, D&D Welding, Three D Enterprises and Lucy’s Dry Cleaners. “We are extremely fortunate to have wonderful local business partners in this year’s coat drive donating and dry cleaning hundreds of winter jackets, this program would not be possible without their overwhelming generosity.” said Evangelidis.
