SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis hosted more than 1,000 seniors from throughout the county for the Sheriff’s Annual Senior Picnic held Aug. 18 at SAC Park in Shrewsbury. This year’s picnic boasted the biggest crowd in the event’s history.
“As sheriff, hosting the annual senior picnic is one of the biggest highlights of the year. It’s always a great honor to give back to our seniors who have given so much to their communities,” Evangelidis said in a statement.
The picnic was sponsored by the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association and included donations by many local businesses. It featured a traditional barbecue menu, cash bingo, raffle prizes, free gift bags and music. More than 100 volunteers were on hand to assist.
“This was the best senior picnic ever. The sheriff really treated us to a special day of delicious food, raffles and bingo games. I can not thank Sheriff Evangelidis enough for this wonderful day and his commitment to our county’s seniors,” picnic attendee Nancy Gerlach of Sterling said in a statement.
