Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis and Patricia Nedoroscik, Vice President of Waters Farm Inc. show off the work done by the sheriff’s Inmate Community Service Program.Responding to a request from Sutton’s Waters Farm Preservation Committee, Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis recently provided free inmate labor through the Sheriff’s Inmate Community Service Program to the 18th Century New England Farm for some much needed scraping, priming and painting of its historic Main House. According to the Sheriff’s press release the project completed by the Sheriff’s Inmate Community Service Program provided the Waters Farm homestead with over $10,000 in savings.
“We can not thank Sheriff Evangelidis enough for providing the Inmate Community Service Program for almost two weeks to complete the enormous project of scraping, priming and painting the exterior of our beautiful and historic Main House at Waters Farm. The Sheriff’s inmate work crews were highly professional and did an impressive job on these much needed improvements that we could not have afforded otherwise. The is truly a wonderful program that has provided a great cost savings and tremendous benefit to Waters Farm.” said Vice President of Waters Farm Preservation Inc. Patricia Nedoroscik.
The Sheriff’s inmate work crews are made up of nonviolent, non-sex offender individuals approaching the end of their sentence who have earned a place in the Community Service Program. Since taking office last year, Sheriff Evangelidis has more than doubled the size of the Inmate Community Service Program and in addition to recently helping Waters Farm provided inmate work crews to complete projects for Sutton’s Youth Baseball resulting in a significant savings of over $20,000 for Sutton’s community.
“The Inmate Community Service Program has provided a true winwin for the Town of Sutton and for the Sheriff’s Department. With local communities continuing to struggle during these tough fiscal times our inmate work crews are able to accomplish many projects at no cost resulting in a significant savings for taxpayers while inmates who are selected for the program appreciate the opportunity of a productive days work,” said Evangelidis.
