Sheriff’s Inmate Community Service Program Make Two Stops in Rutland

Rutland – Committed to making a positive difference both inside the Worcester County Jail & House of
Correction and in the community Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis has been providing inmate work
crews to assist budget strapped cities and towns all over Worcester County. The WCSO Inmate Community
Service Program provides cost free labor to municipalities and non-profit organizations by non-violent, non-sex
offender individuals who have earned a place in the program and under Sheriff Evangelidis the inmate work
crews have been very hard at work.
Since taking office in January of 2011, the Sheriff has more than tripled the size of the Inmate Community
Service Program providing Worcester County communities with an impressive 2.5 million dollars in savings
with over 1,000 work projects completed. Another plus from the Sheriff’s expanded program, inmates benefit
as well by learning job skills and the sense of self worth and dignity that comes with from a productive days
work while the recipients, hundreds of local non-profit organizations and municipalities from throughout the
county have had projects completed by the inmate work crews that they could not have afforded otherwise.
Rutland’s community recently benefited from the Sheriff’s inmate work program twice in the same week with
jobs completed at the Rutland Historical Society and the Treasure Valley Scout Reservation.
“I am thrilled to have provided the Inmate Community Service Program to the Rutland Historical Society and to
the Sober in the Sun Festival Committee which recently held it’s substance abuse prevention program at
Rutland’s beautiful Treasure Valley Scout Reservation.” Evangelidis continued “Our inmate work crews spent
a very busy week replacing worn shingles, priming and painting the century old Historical Society building as
well as completing the set up and clean up of Sober in the Sun Treasure Valley Festival saving both local nonprofit
organizations several thousands of dollars in labor costs. As Sheriff I can not think of a better program
where both the inmates and the community benefits.”
“We really appreciate Sheriff Evangelidis providing the Inmate Community Service Program to our Historical
Society to complete the enormous project of replacing worn shingles, priming and applying a fresh coat of paint
to our 100 year old building which has not been tended to in well over a decade. The Sheriff’s inmate work
crew was top notch, always on time and very professional and without this program we absolutely could not
have afforded or completed this project.” said Rutland Historical Society Treasurer Scott Davis.
“The Sober in the Sun Festival is very thankful for the Sheriff’s inmate work crew and the tremendous help they
provided our organization by setting up and cleaning up the Treasure Valley Scout Reservation after our event.
Our non-profit organization works to help those individuals and families who are in alcohol and substance
abuse recovery and we can not think of a better partner to assist us with our efforts than the Sheriff’s
