LETTER TO THE EDITOR/ JOSEPH CHARIELLE

The Telegram and Gazette

I would like to commend Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis for his dedicated support of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Community Service Program. In a prime example of how government and nonprofits can work together for the benefit of a youth sports program, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Community Service Program was invaluable in preparing our fields this season. Our 220-player program benefited tremendously from what the crews, dispatched by Lt. Steven Hynes of the Community Service Program, were able to take care of this past April.

During the middle of April, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Community Service Program sent a crew to our fields in Sutton. They would arrive promptly every morning and give their all to the task at hand. Their enthusiasm and dedication to their work was very evident.

Over the course of their work and after almost 200 man hours later, a tremendous transformation took place at our fields. Everything from painting to seeding, from rock clearing to grass cutting, from brush clearing to the laying out of new infield dirt, the sheriff’s department crew did it all.

What a tremendous partnership. Our program got a lot of needed work done at our fields and the crew got an opportunity to get out and give back to the community.

I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Hynes and Mr. Evangelidis for allowing us to experience firsthand what a tremendous community program this really is.
