WEST BOYLSTON — A graduation ceremony was held Wednesday for nine Worcester County House of Correction inmates who completed a plastics technology and occupational safety course run by Mount Wachusett Community College in conjunction with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.
The program consisted of 78 hours of instruction intended to prepare the men to step into manufacturing jobs when they are released. The class is the same college-level certificate course that is offered at MWCC’s Devens campus
“I want to thank you all for putting in the time and the work,” said Michael Hurley, who taught the course. “I would hire any of you right now.”
“I have made a life of coming in and our of jail — too many to count,” said 36-year-old inmate David Bottom. “Having this education and certification means I can now better myself.”
