The Rutland Senior Center celebrated the spruce-up it received courtesy of Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis’ inmate pre-release work program with an open house on May 9, offering coffee and goodies and live music by percussionist Craig Harris.
Council on Aging director Nancy Nichols said the senior center located on Glenwood Road was freshly painted and had its floors cleaned and polished through the Sheriff’s program. New rugs were installed courtesy of C&S Carpet Company.
Visitors to the re-opening were also able to view the artwork of painter Charles Gray who teaches watercolor painting at the Senior Center. Gray, 92, had a long career in commercial art and now teaches at Sterling First Church as well as the Rutland Senior Center. His artwork on display is a series of whimsical oil paintings he did to go along with some poetry penned by his sister-in-law for their families amusement.
