WORCESTER, Mass — Worcester County Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis and the Worcester Sharks Organization teamed up for the 6th Annual Worcester County Sheriff’s Food Drive this Sunday when the Sharks hosted the Providence Bruins at the DCU Center — collecting over 2,000 pounds of food for local families.

The items were collected for the Sheriff’s Food Drive at Sunday’s game and will go directly to the Friendly House of Worcester to be distributed at Thanksgiving time to local families in need.

“It is a pleasure to partner with the Worcester Sharks and the Friendly House for the 2011 Sheriff’s Annual Food Drive. As the holiday season approaches, especially during this difficult economic time it is extremely important to do all we can to help those families in our community who may be less fortunate.”

Evangelidis continued “The Sheriff’s Annual Food Drive has a great tradition of giving back, today’s overwhelmingly successful event will go to benefit local families when it is needed the most.”

In addition to Sunday’s game, non-perishable food items may also be dropped off on November 18th at the Worcester Price Chopper located at 50 Cambridge Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
